“Tomorrow is not what it used to be”

This was the place where I used to horse ride for 15 years. A place filled with many memories with my children and husband. A place with a strong community of horse and nature lovers. A beautiful green place with palm trees and birds everywhere. For a long time, this area was protected and categorised as a green area. In 2018, the area was declassified, and promoters were then allowed to build. The riding centre has been asked to go. The stables have been destroyed, and the palm trees have been chopped. Six years later, it is still a completely abandoned land where animal life has totally disappeared. People who don’t know the history of that land just see another empty, desolate land in Bahrain. What I see is all the beauty and life that has existed once and that has been destroyed. The concrete piece in the picture is all that remains from one of the paddocks.
